Air Pirates Voted Best Performing Trope of 2011 for the Fourth Year
The Air Pirates Radio Theater was voted the Best Performing Troupe of 2011 by the Times Herald Record. The announcement made on January 5, 2012 marks the fourth time the company has received this honor in the five years they have been performing their brand of comedy.

The Air Pirates presents its plays at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf, NY and broadcasts live to the internet where radio stations can download them and either record them for broadcast at a later date or like WTBQ air them live. “We started at TBQ and that’s our home station so we plan to be live on the air in the Hudson Valley as long as they’ll have us.” said Paul Ellis producer and director of the Air Pirates. An ensemble of six actors portrays all the characters in each episode while the audience is asked to produce all the sound effects. The Cue Card Girl lets the audiences know when it’s time to slam a door, make the footsteps and even shoot the guns during the shows. The Pirates even perform the radio commercials live asking the audience to supply the necessary sounds.

“This is a riot for us,” says Ellis, “We perform for a truly appreciative audience and we just have fun. The audiences have a great time and allowing them to participate makes for a great evening.” Audiences are returning on a regular basis for the next episodes of mystery, western and science fiction. “What these actors do is not easy. At any time they are playing up to five roles a night. When all is said and done the actors fill the stage with exciting and funny performances,” said Ellis.

The Air Pirates Radio Theater six play series is scheduled to perform at the Pavilion at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf. The spring season begins on March 17th with Herb Marks Freelance: Every Price Has its Man, followed on April 21st with Tica Maroo Space Cadet: Kung Fu Amazons of Doom and on May 19th, a new Herb Marks Freelance: Make Me an Offer I Can Refuse. The season continues in the fall and includes a Halloween special, The Air Pirates version of War of the Worlds and a Herb Marks Holiday special It Aint Such a Wonderful Life.

Tickets are $20 for each show or $50 for any three show series and $100 for the six play season subscription. The Holiday special is not included in the regular season. All performances are at 8:00 PM. For information and to order tickets call 845-469-7563 or visit www. airpirateradio.com.
